Aimnbreak
Introversy

MRDA005

Swedish electronica artist Aimnbreak releases the album 'Introversy' where he feasts on the warmth and comfort of analog machines.

This music is purpose built for dreaming away while looking out a train window, and for winding down after a stressful day at work.It all started in one button push a year ago when Aimnbreak lost a whole debut album he just completed. In response to this crisis situation, Aimnbreak returned to ground zero: he locked himself into his studio with his analog synths in order to find his way back.

The resulting album contrasts ambient melodies with pushy tempos, backed by bubbly 303 basslines. Introversy oscillates between ambient, acid and electro, it is neither pure acid nor pure electro. Aimnbreak entirely stakes out his own path. In contrast to his earlier compositions, driven by complex rythmic patterns, Aimnbreak has opted for soft and acid-like 303 basslines as a rythmic instrument interacting with the beats.

With his new album Introversy, Aimnbreak follows up his debut-EP La Latina, which was frequently played at Swedish National Radio’s Elektroniskt i P2 and inspired by a week of mayhem in Madrid’s tripped-out party district La Latina.

The entire Introversy album is mixed with analogue tools and effects. In order to make the sounds, Aimnbreak has used semi-modular analog synths like Cwejman S1 MK2 and Macbeth Micromac-D as well as Elektron’s Analog Keys and Analog Rytm. He has also explored analog sounds with Roland Juno 106, Dave Smith’s Prophet 12 and Cyclone TT-303

Sidstar
Will work for churros

MRDEP009

Sidstar on a sugar rush with new EP: 'Will Work for churros'.

Swedish artist Sidstar is releasing the 'Will Work for Churros EP', exploring dubby depths and heights. This time he makes camp at a Churreria on the Canary Islands, accompanied by an Octatrack sampler, a Virus synth and a Gameboy with Little Sound DJ. Soaked in churros sugar and grease, Sidstar captures the craziness of island life: partying karaoke - singing Brits and pink - skinned Germans battling for sunbeds on the beach. Under the Canarian sun Sidstar overdoses on vitamin D while testing new dubby soundscapes

With his new EP, Sidstar follows up on his two previous chiptune albums, which were inspired by Nintendo videogames while paying tribute to early synth pioneers. In contrast, the Churros EP is more up - tempo and less Lo - Fi.Simultaneously, Sidstar maintains his weakness for happy - go - lucky melodies and naive songs, oscillating between electro dub, hip hop beats and live jammed crazyness.

On April 30th there will be a release party for the EP at Hotell Malmen’s 'Lilla Hotellbaren' located on Medborgarplatsen in Stockholm.

Gavana
Malaga Nights EP

MRDEP005

Sleepless nights in Malaga’s party district brings Gavana (Anna Gavanas) back to the house clubs of the 1990s, places where everything is possible and the party never ends. Malaga Nights oozes of 90s smokers like Robin S 'Luv 4 Luv', Jaydee’s 'Plastic Dreams' and Mighty Dub Kats’ 'Magic Carpet Ride'. On May 11th Swedish National Radio’s 'Elektroniskt i P2' airs tracks from the EP for the first time

Palm trees, orange trees and blue skies above an urban beach inspire the first track 'Malagueta'. Gavana’s best friend singing along with partying Spaniards causes 'Fiesta Con Anaya'. 'Drunkorama' and 'El Andaluz' are built from field recordings on the streets of Malaga: drunks yelling, dogs barking and workers singing. Malaga Nights follows up on Gavana’s previous EPs, 'Culture Vulture' and 'Vicious Vibrations', which were played in Swedish National Radio’s 'Elektroniskt i P2', in Simon Bustamante’s 'Varvtal', and covered by Johanna Paulsson, one of Sweden’s main music reviewers (Sonic #68, 2013). With this new release, Gavana continues her mission as a driving force in the Swedish electronic music scene:

Being a DJ, producer, remixer, music culture researcher as well as a label owner, Anna Gavanas is a mainstay of the Swedish electronic music scene. When producing, her perfect sense for musical intensity and mellowness guarantees a captivating listening experience'. (Gearjunkies, August 2012)

Malaga Nights is Gavana’s third EP on Meerkat Recordings, and its release coincides with the release of a remix - EP by Rona Geffen(Tel Aviv / Berlin) where Gavana contributes with a remix of Rona Geffen’s track 'Just Fuck Me'.

Sidstar
Costa Del Dub

MRDA003

Swedish artist Sidstar is releasing Costa del Dub, his second chiptune electronica album composed during a winter on the sunny coast of Southern Spain. On December 27th winter cold, two songs from the album will air for the first time on Swedish National Radio’s show 'Elektroniskt i P2'.

Sidstar has travelled from the cold winter in Stockholm to the coast of Southern Spain, accompanied by a Teenage Engineering OP-1 synthesizer. On the Costa del Dub album, Sidstar is inspired by sites and encounters in the sun: a crazy neighbour in Malaga; Britons partying in Fuengirola; loud construction workers in Marbella.Voices and sounds from these events leave traces in Sidstar’s music.

Sidstar’s Costa del Dub album revels in melodies and electronic dubs from environments in Southern Spain. It is also influenced by Prince Jammy’s legendary album ”Computerized Dub”, via the early releases of UK artist Alien Dread to Disrupt’s computer game dub at the Jahtari label. With this second album at Swedish label Meerkat Recordings, Sidstar follows up his first album ”In Andalucia”, which was inspired by Nintendo videogames while paying tribute to early synth pioneers.

Ombudsman
Sentiment

MRDA002

On his new album Sentiment, Ombudsman transgresses musical structure and predictability, steering away from the linear and loop shaped. Aphex Twin, Squarepusher and Chris Clark are some of Ombudsman’s infuences. With a penchant for 90s synthesizers and abstract IDM electronica, Ombudsman does not hesitate to tip over the dance floor.

Movement, rhythm and dance are highly in!uential to Ombudsman’s compositions. In addition to his background as a pianist, Ombudsman also has a dancer background, primarily within street funk, electric boogie and waacking (a type of disco dance). However, Ombudsman’s dance in!uences do not entail a conventional approach to electronic dance music.

Ombudsman’s new album has more in common with hip hop than four-on-the-!oor techno because he relates to the tempo variations and rhythmic liberties of hip hop. Sentiment is an emotionally driven album, but with a point and an intention. Simultaneously, Ombudsman’s tracks are emotionally ambivalent – never clear cut as happy, sad or aggressive, and especially not accommodating.

- My music is supposed to be confusing, there has to be a bit of friction for the listener to reflect and experience novelty. Music becomes interesting if it rubs you the wrong way, but there are artists who make this into an effect, and that becomes overdone and predictable.

Gavana
Culture Vulture

MRDEP006

Gavana’s EP ”Culture Vulture” draws upon electro, hip hop and transgressive forces of dancehall. Trippy, bombastic and shameless with a cheeky twist. Two tracks on the EP are remixes from Gavana’s debut-EP ”Vicious Vibrations” released earlier this Spring: moombathon/ trap/ rave influenced versions by Swedish electronica- and drum&bass producer Aimnbreak. ”Culture Vulture” continues the explorations of Gavana’s the debut-EP, featured on Swedish National Radio (Elektroniskt i P2) and the Swedish magazines Södermalmsnytt and Sonic (#68). On both records Gavana traces dancehall influences.

Aimnbreak
La Latina EP

MRDEP004

Aimnbreak makes intense and drum driven music for stressed out urban souls. Like Rhitalin for ADHD. He is the former drummer and producer that finally emerges from the background while foregrounding the drums.

The EP is inspired by an intense week in the La Latina district of Madrid. Its people, liveliness, traffic, and 24-hour party noise. Armed with a Tempest drum machine in an intense urban environment, Aimnbreak’s music crystallizes modern urban existence while pinpointing its peacefulness, balancing stressed out beats with serene melodic traces.

The La Latina EP integrates extremely analogue with extremely digital. Built on modern dub, hip hop and IDM it is influenced by artists like Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Disrupt, Kuedo and Hightone.

Sidstar
In Andalucia

MRDLP003

Accompanied by his tiny Teenage Engineering OP-1 synthesizer, Sidstar made his debut album in the mountains of Andalucia. Straightforward and melodic, his tracks are immediate reflections of the journey: birds chasing bugs in the pool, walks in the village of Algodonales and happy pugs stumbling about without a care in the world. Sidstar’s sound is inspired by Nintendo videogames while paying tribute to early synth pioneers. Sidstar’s productions span all the way between the naive and the grandiose while still adhering to the “less is more” principle.

All songs written, produced and performed on a Teenage Engineering OP-1 portable synthesizer*. *Except bassline on Hover by Der OTO

MRDLP001

In this compilation we demonstrate the capabilities of DJs/producers within and beyond language and politics (by any definition of the term). Our tracks thus address dimensions in electronic music culture from DJ/producer perspectives, complementary to writing about it. As specialised guides to musical worlds we make our points and tell our stories through soundscapes, weaving together auditory elements and influencing the bodies, moods and emotions of crowds. Inspired by Graham St John's recent book Technomad: Global Raving Countercultures (2009), “Nomads in Sound vol. 2” illustrates visions in electronic music cultures as collective experiences, struggles and vibes.
